On January 16, 2020 our Collaborative brother Joseph Gould, Jr. transitioned into eternal glory.
Joseph Gould, Jr. was born in New Orleans, LA on May 7, 1951, to the union of Joseph and Fannie Gould. He was the youngest of four children. He departed this life on January 16, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joseph met his future wife, Debra Ann Washington Gould, at the age of 23. Joseph and Debra were married in 1975 and remained married for 45 years. From their union were born Joseph Gould, III.
Joseph attended Coghill Elementary School and high school graduate from George Washington Carver Senior High School and an Honorable Mention All-American Basketball Player in the City of New Orleans. Joseph received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Iowa in 1974. Also, he earned an athlete scholarship as a Collegiate Basketball player at the University of Iowa. He was a good athlete.
Joseph was an entrepreneur and businessman of Joe Gould Advertising and Promotions, A Division of Debra Gould & Associates, Inc.
Joseph is the author of Brothers Together: Lessons Learned That Have Anchored Our Souls! Joseph and Debra are the co-authors of Together Making Your Marriage Work from the Start, Real Relationships Require Real Work and Strength through the Challenge.
Joseph was a private man. His son Joseph was his greatest accomplishment. And of that he was not shy about. Ask anyone, a conversation with Joseph would eventually lead to him bragging about his son, Joseph III and grandkids, Emani and Joseph IV. Joseph chest would expand when talking about Joseph IV and his academic achievements and accomplishments in basketball and soccer. He was a jazz music buff and an avid reader.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Debra Washington Gould; his son, Joseph; daughter-in-law, Kristin Wright Gould; grandchildren, Emani and Joseph; siblings, Pamela, Harold and Lois and a host of other relatives and friends.
Joseph will be remembered for being a positive and inspiring person. Also, he was conversational, having a great attitude, being enthusiastic, having a voice of wisdom, a person that boldly spoke but was firm when necessary and for his pleasant smile. Joseph loved his family unconditionally. He was a sports fanatic; he especially enjoyed college football and basketball.
Joseph’s beautiful life will live on through his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Debra Washington Gould; a caring and devoted son, Joseph Gould, III and two grandchildren, Emani and Joseph, IV; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, his Franklin Avenue Baptist Church and Bethany United Methodist Church family and friends. His father, Joseph Gould, Sr. and his mother, Fannie R. Gould of New Orleans, Louisiana preceded him in death.
